What if a client goes missing / absconds?

If a client leaves unexpectedly, wanders off, or cannot be located:

  • Check the immediate surroundings (inside the home, yard, usual areas, close by shop if you are in a shopping center, contact center management).
  • Do not leave other vulnerable people unattended while searching.
  • If you believe the client is at risk or cannot be found quickly, call 000 immediately.
  • Once safe to do so, contact the office and report the situation.
  • Document exactly what happened, including times, locations, and what you observed should an incident report be required.
